How We Rate Casinos

Our review methodology is designed to give Canadian players a transparent, practical guide to the casinos we evaluate. We focus on the factors that matter most for safety, fairness, and overall player experience. Each casino receives a score from 1 to 10 based on the eight criteria below, listed in order of importance.

1. Licensing & Regulation

A casino’s licence is the foundation of trust. We prioritise operators regulated by top-tier authorities such as the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, as well as credible local Canadian provincial regulators. Curaçao-licensed casinos are considered but only if they demonstrate additional layers of player protection, such as independent audits and transparent ownership. A casino lacking a verifiable licence fails this section and cannot score above 3 overall.

2. Game Selection & Software Providers

We assess the depth and quality of the game library. A strong casino offers thousands of slots from leading studios like Microgaming, NetEnt, Evolution, and Play’n GO, alongside a solid range of live dealer games (blackjack, roulette, baccarat, game shows) and classic table games. We also check for progressive jackpots, exclusive titles, and game fairness certifications from eCOGRA or iTech Labs. A diverse, high-quality portfolio earns higher marks; a thin or poorly curated selection lowers the score.

3. Bonus Terms & Wagering Requirements

Bonuses are only as good as their conditions. We scrutinise the full terms and conditions for every welcome offer and ongoing promotion. Key factors include wagering requirements (rollover) — we consider 35x or lower on bonus funds as fair for Canadian players — plus game weightings, time limits, maximum bet restrictions, and especially any max cashout caps. Hidden clauses or unreasonable terms significantly reduce this score, regardless of how large the headline bonus appears.

4. Payment Methods & Withdrawal Speed

Canadian players need fast, low-fee banking. We evaluate the range of deposit and withdrawal options, including Interac, Visa/Mastercard (given our focus on Mastercard acceptance), e-wallets like MuchBetter and Skrill, bank transfers, and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Litecoin. Withdrawal speed is critical: we reward casinos processing e-wallet and crypto payouts within 24 hours and card/bank payouts within 3–5 business days. High fees, long pending periods, or missing CAD support hurt the score.

5. Customer Support

Reliable support is non-negotiable. We test each casino’s live chat, email, and sometimes phone support. A strong support team is available 24/7, responds to live chat in under a minute, and provides clear, accurate answers in English (and ideally French for Canadian players). We also check for a comprehensive FAQ or help centre. Slow, scripted, or unhelpful responses lower this score significantly.

6. Mobile Experience

Most Canadian players use mobile devices, so we expect a seamless experience. We test the casino on iOS and Android through both mobile browsers and, where available, dedicated apps. A high score requires fast load times, full game compatibility, easy navigation, and all account features accessible on smaller screens. A clunky or outdated mobile site — or a missing dedicated app when competitors offer one — reduces the rating.

7. Responsible Gaming Tools

A trustworthy casino must protect its players. We reward operators that offer robust responsible gaming features, including deposit limits (daily, weekly, monthly), loss limits, session time reminders, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion options. We also check for links to Canadian problem gambling resources like ConnexOntario or provincial helplines, and whether the casino is certified by organisations such as GamCare or RG Check. Casinos with minimal or hidden responsible gaming tools receive a low score here.

8. Our Rating Scale

Every casino receives a final score from 1 to 10, based on a weighted average of the seven criteria above. The scale is interpreted as follows:

We never inflate scores based on advertising or partnerships. Our ratings reflect only our independent, hands-on testing and research as of 2026.
